Hi,
I am planning to go up to Mt Rainier this weekend. Has anybody heard where the wildflowers are at their best? I am contemplating Natches loop or Spray Park.
Well,
to me, it looks like the flowers are a day or two away from being total crap and past peak at Sunrise, and the lupine (pretty much all that's left) are all off trail and in meadows that are not supposed to be gotten into. At one point, my tripod was a foot (I'm serious, just 12 inches) off the side of the road and a ranger stopped and told me to get out of the meadows, and that even a little means a lot. I understood...
Paradise, to me looks like it is over...way over...but I'm no expert. Plus, Paradise really never gets great light this time of year at sunrise and sunset.
To me, the park is pretty much done...but again, I'm no expert on Rainier wildflowers and I might return there on Friday and Saturday anyway.

I checked with an old friend of mine from college who is the lead climbing ranger on Rainier. He says it's past peak. He did post this on his blog about a week and a half ago. Wish I saw it earlier....
