Here's one to make you laugh (at my expense).

As some of you may know, up until the end of last year I was a regular contributor to this forum, when I decided that photography was not for me and sold all of my equipment.

Early last year I spent 4 days on a workshop with pro Neil McIntyre up in Aviemore. On returning home and processing my images I wrote an article about my experiences on Neil's workshops and sent it off to OP Magazine.

Months passed and I didn't even get any notification from the magazine saying that they had received my submission.

Well, through the post today arrived a hard backed envelope with a printed address which I recognised as one that I had done.

Inside was a letter from OP thanking me for my submission and a complimentary copy of the September issue. Inside the magazine was a two page spread of my magazine.

I don't know whether or not to be happy that I have had something published, all be it a little late.

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick

Yes I saw your article, well written I thought, and with some nice piccies.

I hope OP gave you some cash as well as a free copy of the magazine.

Also I reckon Neil MacIntyre owes you a pint (or two!) for that, I don't think it will do his business any harm.

cheers

Looking at it now.... Well done on getting it published, I think you should be happy, although you decided that photography was not for you and you now take part in more physical (and dangerous  ) pastime, your perseverance and fine photography have finally been recognised....

Did that make sense?

All the best & hope to speak again soon.

Cheers Chaps.

Sean,

No I haven't received any payment from OP. I didn't receive any previous communication which I think is a bit strange, and will be getting in touch with them.

Phil,

I was glad to see that you decided to stick with it, and are producing some excellent images. The mountain biking is going well, all be it causing a few scrapes/scratches (but it's worth it).

Cheers,
Nick

excellent article Nick.. ....although I guess the bit about you going back to another workshop with neil next year won't be happening then

Is Neil Mac.... still doing photography..you don't see his pics/words in print much anymore, which is a shame

Larry,

I haven't actually read the article yet to see how much editing has been done. I am now using a Canon Ixus 65 (which has an excellent 3 inch LCD) - do you think that would be good enough to go another workshop with  ?

I'm not actually sure about Neil Mac. His website is still up, but hasn't been updated since last year. I am going to try and get in contact him to see if I can get that pint off him the next time I'mm up in Aviemore.

Cheers,
Nick

PS... You did well to get an article published in OP, I've sent lots of articles in to them over the years and they always got returned..usually with a letter of gratitude for the article and a "sorry it's already been comissioned from another photographer"...it's a tough market to break in to, You just have to work harder..think harder and plan harder than the guys who are at the top of the tree..trouble is that they are out there..some of them 24/7 taking pics ...it's a tough old world..getting your pics in to an agency is even harder these days too

...sooooo many people doing nature photography and trying to make money out of it nowadays.. :frown:

Congratulations Nick, I never quite understood why you gave it up with the quality of images you used to post on here.
Best wishes
