I had a good morning at the local lake to day, there's a hide with a fallen tree in front of it, and the Kingfishers just love to sit and fish from here.Weather was a bit difficult as the sun kept going in and out,but managed to get a good few decent shots.
Usual kit: D200, 300mm 2.8,1.7TC and all at 400iso....
The pose and composition are excellent and the fish in the beak is a real bonus too.
My only nit is the Kingfisher looks a little on the dark side, perhaps a curves or shadow/highlight adjustment would help a little.
Did you get any when the sun came out?as I can imagine a bit of welcome sunlight on the bird's front or back would work a treat in this instance and really help show off the beautiful plumage.

Hi Stewart
A great pose and composition but the light is just too flat to do the bird justice. However it sounds like you will have plenty of chances to try again. I know I'd be back like a shot for the chance of some Kingfishers like this.

It seems a decent image, but appears very dark on my monitors.
Best wishes
