This is an image I managed to take the other morning, I was following this water vole as it was making its way along the edge of the canal, every now and then it would stop to explore the bank and feed. On this occaision it went down this pipe, I waited for about 20 minutes, but thought it might have come out of a different entrance and I missed it. I was just about to move on when it popped its head out and I managed to grab a couple of shots.

Hi Danny
Super shot. Great use of the low angle, I love the head position and eye contact with the vole, the reflection is a real bonus too and enhances the image tremendously.
I know you have been working on your water voles for a while and this is a just reward for your efforts. Cracking shot, well done.
Wow, I love this shot! I must see if I can spot any in Bournemouth Gardens, I know there are quite a few down there but have only ever seen one I think.
What's not to like in this shot?
Everything about it smacks of quality.

Hello Gavin, yes I am in the water and the camera is mounted on a tripod about 6-8 inches off the surface. I have always liked low angles as it gives a more intimate feel to a picture. I photographed otters on the Shetland Isles a few years ago and used the same techniques and found I could get really close to them. I suppose in a way they don't see danger this way and are a bit more relaxed. Water Voles are quite tame and can be confiding but I still think it works better this way.
Cheers

Hi Danny,
This is superb. The reflection rounds the shot off nicely. Its nice to see something a bit different instead of the usual 'vole in reeds shot'.
I think this is a cracking shot.
An image of,just the vole by the riverbank, would,in itself be excellent, but the way the pipe and stones naturally frame the vole makes this one just that bit special and unique.
An excellent result.

Well done Danny. I bet you were anxious to see how it turned out! A very fine shot indeed. It has greeting card written all over it! Cracking reflection... what more can anyone want from a water vole shot.
