Anyone know a good location around Fort Collins area for butterflies?? Once the rabbit brush flowers (soon) we will get Monarchs etc on them but for now it is hard to find butterflies. I've seen some swallowtails but they are elusive.
Ideas??
thanks,

It's not "local" wildlife, but have you ever photographed at the Butterfly Pavilion? Tomorrow happens to be their "Tripod Day." http://www.butterflies.org/class.cfm?calID=87

thanks Denise, yes I have and it was great. I also saw some at the Rocky Mountain arsenal so will head down there tomorrow and see what we get.
Cheers.

Thanks, Denise. It's good to know they have 'tripod days". I haven't been back since they banned tripods.

Yeah, I understand their reasoning, especially since it would no doubt be one of my kids that would trip over a tripod and kill someone's camera! But I like the special day and time once a month for photographers. Tomorrow I'm heading up with the kids for what seems to have become our annual back to school butterfly visit. Man, I hope I can get out of holding Rosie this year...

agree denise, the last time I went I got good shots but had to wait for 7 school bus loads of kids to leave first, then a film crew came in etc etc, stressful!

I just checked out Barr Lake and there are no butterflies there and few flowers.

Yesterday wasn't too bad. The red hat ladies were there, but that was actually pretty neat. I just took our smaller camera for convenience, but I was still pleased with this shot.

Oh, and I did get out of holding Rosie. Instead I had to pet a hissing cockroach!
