I have a question: what is that brain thing ???

I think you have right brain and left brain completely mixed up. Right brain just looks and takes photo, having already internalized all the other stuff so it's practically like breathing, ie, no conscious thought to it.
It is this "mixture" of both art and science that continues to attract me to photography! I find it difficult to consider a different artistic medium that so grandly fullfills both my artistic side and my inner geekiness!! Left brain/right brain? Who cares!!?? I'm having a blast using both!!

Lynne,
And you are almost correct. There is conscious thought to it however it can happen so quickly that it seems intuitive. It is at that point when the decisions have been made that the Photographer enters a special state of Mind and Thinking is avoided. Being aware of what the
Mind is doing will make you a better Photographer.
