Mt. Evans Encore
As a follow up to my earlier Mt. Evans shot, here is another from a few minutes later as the sun just hit the horizon. Since the light faded from the foreground rocks, I recomposed to capture some of the dramatic clouds that were moving rapidly up the slopes of the mountain. Using 5 stops of grad to hold back the sky also extended the exposure time to create the sweeping movement in the clouds.

Spectacular! I think I like this better than the first - to me it has a more cohesive feel. Great work, John.

Thanks for the feedback Rick. My only regret with this is that the fg isn't stronger, but I still like it.

I know what you're saying, John. The foreground is mono-tonal (?) and stretches all along the bottom; even the mountains in the background have the same tone. The effect, for me, being that the image doesn't possess the depth that could take it to the next level.

I'd hang this on my wall as is and be quite proud to have made it; if it were mine, I'd take some creative liberties and play around with dodging and burning certain parts of the mountains (foreground and background) to see if I could lend them more character and depth, while still keeping it natural looking.

John, I love the motion you've captured in the clouds. I definitely prefer the first post, but this is no less awe inspiring. Both incredible images.

Rick, good point about adding some depth to the fg. I'll definitely play around with some dodging and burning to accentuate some of the ridges on the mountainside.

Jesse, thanks for the feedback. I'm kind of torn between the two images deciding which I like better, so it's nice to hear what other think.

Those clouds give a primeval look to the shot, what colors!
