I went up the mountains on Bute today with the wildlife ranger, to photograph wood ants (and anything else interesting). We came across this mystery plant growing under short heather on one of the forestry roads. It had the tall yellow flowers(?) and seemed to spread with the pale green foliage along the ground. The flowers are about 3 inches tall and the spread of the plant about 3 feet. I have included an insert of the flower, top left.
Yet again I ask for your help guys - it is not in any of our books (we think)
Best wishes
Phil
Thanks Nick, it doesn't get a mention in the book I looked in, but it is in the other one - looks like I'll be chucking a book out!
Very much obliged

Should be in your books. It looks like Stag's-horn clubmoss Lycopodium clavatum. It's common on mountain moors heath & grassland in Scotland & Wales.

Looks like Nick has covered the I.D. which is handy as I wouldn't know where to start
Interesting and unusual looking species you've found there.
