Hi gang,
Our local club is going on a group outting to Ruidoso New Mexico The last week of November. We're after landscapes, scenics, and anything interesting. We're going to hit White Sands, Bosque del Apache, Valley of the Fires, and the area around Cloudcroft.
Can anyone think of someplace that we should have included on our list of stops?
I hope we can find an old southwest cemetary while we're there, but if you could suggest anything of interest, I'd be greatful.
Many thanks

Perhaps Carlsbad Caverns? Not really too far from Ruidoso.

Three Rivers Petroglyph Site. I haven't been there yet but I plan to go around the end of November as well.

I'll second Adam's suggestion of Three Rivers Petroglyph. It's a fun place to try light painting at twilight and later. I did it with film but think the immediate feedback from digital would make it even more rewarding.

Thanks folks. We'll add Three Rivers to our list. Looks like we'll be spending a fair amount of time in the Lincoln National Forest as well.
Thanks again for your tips.

I agree with all the sites listed so far. If you're considering Carlsbad, I'd put the Guadalupe Mountains National Park very high on your list for landscapes. It's about an hour south of there, just over the line into Texas. November is ideal for the maples in McKitrick Canyon (as I recall the name). That's right, maples. Way out there in the desert is a small range of mountains with surprisingly wet microhabitats in some of the canyons. Some walking involved, but worth every step!

How about the old western towns of Lincoln & Capitan, I was just there in May and there were some really good photo opts....Lincoln has a really old grave yard as well with some of the "Billy the Kid" era graves there.......It is worth the trip and real close to Ruidoso......
