The worst time of the year for landscape photography is now. About Aug. 15 through Sep. 15 it really sucks. Haze, smoke, clear skies, dull, dusty and dry. Blah! And when 75 degrees is too hot for you (like it is for me) it makes it that much worse.
end rant.

So challenge yourself to find something anyway. Good luck!

Ahhhhhhh. Winter. It's not that far off now.

Marc,
I just got back from a five day trip from the Bend-Sisters area. The only shots I got were of the dim magenta sun with smoke filled sky's. Maybe I'll post one later. :frown:

I agree, this time of year is tough for mountains and major scenic shots...OK...bad for alot of shots we all love to take. Another month...
pretty cool black and white. Looks like you were just sitting pretty high up on this girl...

I made an attempt on the summit (not shown here) but turned back due to unusually loose rime ice and lack of protection at about 9000 feet at 6am. It's about 10 miles in on skis.

(1) Use the adverse conditions to challenge yourself! Erik, next time you go to Bend, go out to the Badlands, no spectacular topography, intimate scale landscape, but nice.....

(2) New England! Humidity, summer rain, heat lightning in the evenings, fireflies, sweet sweet sunsets and sunrises.

That is when I head to the coast...

Funny you should mention the coast, Ned. I've had my eye on this one shot in particular, near Seal Rocks for over a year now. Suffice it to say when it happens, it will be truly great. Unfortunately, there are only maybe two or three times each year when exactly the right tides, waves and sky happen simutaneously to allow this capture. Yesterday, was one of those rare times. I was so excited I drove out there forgetting one of my routine pre-trip preparations for short excursions - check the web cameras! I got five minutes away from Newport and realized everything was covered in thick, featureless low clouds preventing anything but the most intimate captures. I was so mad! Such a little thing too. More low clouds on the coast expected all week.

Marc,

Great time to photograph the Greek Isles. I leave in 2 weeks. Can't wait! :jump:

Well, even the coast will disappoint ya if the timing ain't right. Marie and I took her son on a salmon charter out of Illwaco yesterday. we stayed in Long Beach Saturday night, so I took the camera down on the boardwalk because the clouds looked promising... as the sun went down my hopes went with it, as the cloud bank on the horizon was too thick to allow any light through. Thus the warm light I was hoping to get on the boardwalk and sawgrass didn't materialize.

I did manage to get a hazy silhoette of a couple sitting on the beach though... one of those hallmark card type shots, but that's about it... :frown:

this time of year can produce a thick marine layer much like this one...

I kinda like this time, I can catch up with my other life  , and relax from photography a little bit. Also I can catch up on processing before heading out for autumn .

Other life, huh? Ya lost me there.

I too like to just enjoy the end of summer and catch up on some processing, I spent the the best day yet this summer swinging from a rope swing on the clackamas river yesterday, it was a grand summer day with the wife and dog

But, I was also thinking of heading to the coast later this week.
