This is one of my favorite places. The exact spot where I recall capturing the first, nice landscape picture I ever took in my life and possibly the image that compelled me to pursue my career in photography. It was 1997 when I first shot this location. During years of occasional return trips I leared the light is best at the end of August from this perspective. After a couple nights of working on it this week, I came away with this new image showcasing sun and forest. This old-growth grove of Grand Fir stands atop Marys Peak, in Oregon's Coast range, and is called the Sun Forest because the forest is isolated on top of the butte and catches both the first and last light of the day. It's really an amazing place but of course very difficult to compose due to the complexities of forests. Suffice it to say this is not an image destined for 700-pixel web resolution. Reposted with slightly more USM contrast. Thanks Catherine for your comment on the previous post.

Marc,
This is a nicely composed and thought out image. It's interesting to see where it all began for you. As usual, nice work!

I usually don't say this, but I would think this would look great printed big. Very nice comp.

This is great, Marc. Clean enough compostion to really stand out and I agree a large print of this would probably be something to behold.

When I saw this yesterday my first thought was Sherwood Forest. This has a very fairytail mood to it and a painting-like quality.
