I was flicking through the WH Express mail catalogue this morning and was struck by the hideous prices being asked for various gadgets, gizmos and fluids to clean your camera sensor of dust. I mean, £200 for a bag containing some wipe pads, a couple of miracle brushes and even...an entire two AAA batteries to run it all on. Have these guys seen everyone coming? The psuedo-science and technobable that are spouted in the copy in these things is very reminiscent of the Cosmetics Industry. Will we see anti-aging, anti-wrinkle creme for your camera's sensor shortly - the sort that stops Solar radiation from damaging the colour response of the sensor and fading your pictures even as they're taken  .

Add to this the new incredible vibrating sensors that simply shake away the dust from the sensor, never to return again . 'Scuse me, but where exactly does the dust go to once it's been shaken off

I'm in the wrong business here, I should be selling DSLR Sensor Snake Oil (vaseline)....

"Roll up, roll up, get yer' DLSR Snake Oil 'ere. Guaranteed no dust spots ever again (unless you take the lens off), and no visible hairs (only on bald models!). Simply smear on your camera's sensor and get a wonderful soft-focus effect - Brides and their mothers will simply love you! Cures warts and all on any Model you care to photograph. Gives wonderful motion blur effects for those award winning arty shots. Your's for only £200 + P&P. We'll even throw in a couple of artists brushes to apply it with."

or how about...

"Check out our advanced orbital vibrating cleaner unit. Designed and manufactured in the world class labs of Deck and Blacker, the specially sculpted hand shaped cleaner is guaranteed to remove dust from your camera sensor. Simply place your camera on the vibrating pad, plug in, turn on and watch you camera shake the dust off. The unit even has a special speed control so that you can even get rid of those especially stubborn hairs and dust spots that no other cleaners can reach..."

Why do we find ourselves falling for this modern techno-babble....

Not only that, us poor d1 & d2 uses get robbed for a power supply to do the job yet another 75 to £100, the term (see them coming) springs to mind and then after 12-18 months they bring out the incrementally small upgrade to your older body, wiping out hundreds of pounds off that in value.

Phillip.

I'm pleased with DLSR from intemos at about £1 a clean. Self-cleaning anti-static sensor will make this a thing of the past.regrettably our cameras too! :frown:

I must admit the oly vibration SSWF works very well, many oly users have NEVER had dust, i think i've seen one case in 3+ years...

The Sony version shakes the camera sensor to death, the canon version sounds like the oly one so should be very good.
