Started out Saturday morning with pea-soup thick fog up and down the Washington coast and went directly to this... overhead sun without a cloud in the sky for relief.
Note to bird lovers everywhere: Many beautiful pelicans around Westport, and the Marbled Godwits are at the Tokeland Marina in great numbers.

Janet,
I like the capture of the pelican. We were on the Washington coast yesterday, and saw flocks of pelicans also. Must be all the warm weather we're enjoying.

It's a nice capture. I think I would like to see a little more contrast in the water and some more seperation between the two birds.
I agree a little more separation in the birds would be nice. The bird in the foreground is almost lost in the pelican, and some of the highlights appear to be a little too harsh. A nice capture though, good focus and I like that wings spread on the bird in the background.

Thanks very much for your responses.
I completely agree with the comments regarding contrast and separation. The highlights are harsh naturally because of the direct overhead sun. I generally completely avoid shooting at that time of day, but because I hauled out of bed a 3 a.m. to get to Westport by sunrise, was determined to get "something" for my time and gas. That darn morning fog intereferred with my nice morning bird shooting.
As for the water and color overall I do seem to have much more saturation and definition on my computer, but it's lost when I web post. I haven't mastered the fine art of good looking web posts. I'm no Harald, Ned, Rick, or Mark, (just a few of my favorite posters) but my stuff generally looks better than I can get it to show here. That's probably true for many of us who are less experienced with the fine art of web interpretations. I'm open to suggestions for that as well!
Harald, did we pass each other by that day? My husband is commenting on the amount of gas and miles I'm putting on so I can't return soon. I ran into a guy with a lovely 500mm f4 L lens who lost his car keys to his rental - they fell down in the rocks along the waterfront. I hope he's not still sitting out there. My day wasn't as bad as his!

Janet,
We might have passed each other somewhere sometime, although we drove to the coast later in the day, staying until after sunset. There wasn't much of a sunset and no clouds, but we had a good time in the sunshine hiking on the beach.
The pelicans up here in the north seem pretty shy, and this is a nice sharp image, which isn't easy to capture.
