I posted this in another thread to answer questions about the ways in which images can be posted, but thought it might be useful to have a separate message. When I get back from travelling, I'll see if I can find a good permanet location for this since I get quite a few e-mails on this topic.
Anyone can post an image in a new post. At the bottom of the page for a new topic, there should be two options, one of which will be grayed out if you are not an NPN member.
Embed via Upload: Option #1 – available for paid NPN members - is to include a .jpg with your new post by clicking on the Browse button near the bottom of the page and selecting an image from your hard drive.
Embed via Link: Option #2 – available to anyone - is to point/link to an image that is hosted somewhere else; this works only for new topics, not for replies. Note – you need to link to the .jpg, not the .html page that contains the .jpg. There is a field for the URL at the bottom of the new post page. That should result in the image being shown in your post. Only one image can be included in the post.
Displaying Multiple Images: Paid NPN Members can include/embed images in replies to their own or others’ posts. One advantage of this is that if you want to post several images at once, you can put the first image in the initial post and add more by replying to your own post, as Brian and Adam did in this thread.
Linking to Images (without displaying the image): Anyone can post an active link (versus just showing the URL) to an image hosted elsewhere by following the Text Style Menu instructions; a link to these instructions is always located on the posting page – below the smilies for replies, or to the left of the title field on new posts. If you just type/paste the URL into your message, it will appear like this: http://www.rickdunn.net/images/new/new_Aug_06/CO_P7282567.jpg and no one can click on it to go to the image; they’ll have to copy and paste into their browser. But if you follow the Text Style Menu instructions on how to use the url tags, you can have the link be active as shown here: http://www.rickdunn.net/images/new/new_Aug_06/CO_P7282567.jpg.
I hope that helps!
