The pelicans are amazing to watch as they stomp on the surface of the water and put their wings in power-mode to lift off the surface. Their faithful gull friends are relentless in attempting to snatch a morsel of the pelican fish.

Great focus, tact sharpe. For my taste, there seem to be a bit much going on in this photo for my eye to study the primary object. Nonetheless, I like it. Great capture. Birds just being birds I guess.

Randy,
Most of the posters on this site feature their most beautiful, artistic and poetic interpretations of the natural sites they shoot. I appreciate all of you very much, and find your work inspirational.
This however is simply a raw representation of a force in nature captured in a heartbeat of time - nothing artistic about it. I love it for a different reason, and photography allows me to capture and share it. I don't expect any admiration for composition or artsy talent on a frame like this. I know it also has lousy lighting and all, but isn't it amazing how those big old birds just leap out of the water and take flight? A different kind of beauty.

I agree with Janet. This is definatly what you call nature. I think this is exceptional.

Janet: My comments were not meant to offend. I saw the picture as birds being birds. Furthermore, I could spend all day photo-ing the big ole pelicans - just something about them. As I said, good catch.

As primarily a bird guy, I think your image has a lot going for it. Good control of what looks like a tough lighting situation. Great action. If you don't mind, Here's a simialar gull/pelican shot I took in FL. I really have a soft spot in my heart for gulls, they never cease to amaze me with their goofy antics.
Very nice shot!

Randy, I'm not at all offended by your comments. I like hearing from you. I just wanted to let you know that I am aware of compositional, technical and artistic short-comings of the frame. Please continue to offer your opinion without apology. Sometimes I will take liberty to post subjects that are IMO amazing but lack PNWNP's normal standards for attractive.
Dan, Wow! That is so cool. Perfect timing on the trigger finger. Also, Florida gulls are prettier than our gulls. (But we may have better looking buoys ) I enjoy watching the action between the 2 bird species.
