Canon 30D Conversion Problem

I have a new Canon 30D. I want to shoot in RAW format; however, after I download through Breezebrower Downloader and go to Adobe Photoshop CS2 for conversion, I get an error message saying "Could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document." The file extension is CS2. I did not have this problem with my Canon 20D. Do I need a Photoshop plug-in or use another Quality selection? I don't want to using the accompanying Canon software for conversion--I want to use Adobe Photoshop CS2. Any suggestions?

Hi Nancy,

I suspect the problem will be solved if you download and install the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW. Be sure to read the install instructions so you put the new file in the correct folder.

Bob, I followed the directions exactly but am still getting the warning and cannot convert RAW files in Photoshops CS2. I am just terrible at downloading online and might have done something wrong. Can I delete the Update and start over?

Maybe you have already done this, but you have to manually place ACR plug-in in a specific folder. You have to remove the old plug-in and replace it with the new. On a PC, go to My Computer > C: > Program Files > Common Files > Adobe > Plug-ins > CS2 > File Formats. When I did this, I deleted the old ACR plug-in (it will be in the Recycle Bin if you need it), copied the new ACR plug-in file, and then pasted it in correct location.

The only thing that I can add to what Alan said is that I don't remember even deleting the old ACR plug in. I think that I just put the new one in the file and let it go at that.

The instructions that I received when I updated my ACR, the instructions said to move the old ACR file to another folder so that it can be re-installed in need be. DO NOT make another folder called "Backup" in the folder that Alan listed above. I tried that and I could not use Bridge. A folder named save worked ok. However, I cannot see why you would need to save it. So, I would just delete it and try the new ACR plug-in. If it works, go for it. If it doesn't, you still have the old file in the trash can.

For what it is worth, I use Windows Explorer to download my picture files. Many years ago, I found that the supplied download program for my Kodak point-n-shoot reformatted all the files when I used the Kodak software. It resulted in another reduction in size, and probably added more artifacts into the jpeg files. Besides, the Windows Explorer was MUCH quicker. I can't believe that I just said something good about a Bill Gates program......

Despite downloading the latest Adobe Plugin and Breezebrowser Pro, I still cannot access my files shot in Raw Format with the Canon 30D. Still waiting for verification of the latest version of Breezebrowser Downloader Pro but was told it wouldn't make any difference. I am wondering if there is something that I need to change using the Menu of the Canon 30D. Any suggestions?

Nancy, have you tried the Digital Photo Pro that came with your camera? If DPP can see your images, then you still have something amiss with your Photoshop ACR. If not, then there's something wrong with your RAW files.

Thanks Bob. That will be my next step.

I did download the Canon Digital Pro and could see my photos with Zoom Browser. I was able to download the Canon 30D Raw files using BB Downloader Pro. However, I still cannot access the Canon D Raw files using Adobe Photoshop CS2 which is my preferred method for conversion. Therefore, the problem must be with the Adobe Plug in. I am going to delete my CS2, reinstall it and re-download the Adobe Plug-in. Perhaps I made a mistake when I downloaded it originally. There may just be a new Canon 30D for sale pretty soon!

The last step did it! I removed Adobe CS2 and the plug-in; reinstalled Adobe, added the plug-in, updated everything and now it is running! Again, thanks everybody. I am out of here!
