Hi
I'm planning to buy the Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS lens. However I've noticed that it's a special lens & can be used only with 20D & 30D. Though I've 30D, should I worry about it's future roadmap?
Let me know your thoughts?

I'd be more concerned about the large amount of chromatic aberration this lens produces in many situations. Not all of it can be fixed either. The barrel distortion is quite noticeable as well. The thing I do like about it is the IS and the wide range of zoom. Maybe there's better choices for less money.
I woudln't worry too much about EF-S unless you plan on getting a 5D or more expensive body. Canon is making a lot of EF-S lenses so I think there will continue to be a market for those lenses.

I have this lens and I like it/don't regret buying it. I also have the 30D, and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. I think this is a question that only you can answer - it all depends on your budget and how soon you think you might upgrade.
Hi Gautham,
overall I agree with Richard...it is a nice lens and I've enjoyed it for nealy one year, but now I've swapped it with the 24-105 L IS - quite expensive but much better (less CA, better sharpness, better built, one stop faster).
