Taken today at Salthouse beach in Norfolk.
Pebble beach I might add.
Gitzo with wimberly head.
D2x 600mm AFS II.
Most obliging bird, allowing you to walk by at 12ft without even flinching.

Very nice Major, a very confiding bird that seemed to like being photographed, hope the old boy that passed out was OK!
After you left the low sunlight was very nice and the bird came to within 1.5mtrs.... still downloading my 14gigs worth of it.
Like the pose bg and the colours in the water... might tone down the highlights on the rock in front of the bird though.

Hi Major,
It so nice when birds pose for the camera. Pity it doesn't happen more often. Lovely shot.
Regards Chris.

What's this with the old boy passing out? Did Major open his wallet?
Great intimate portrait, I like the angle and comp.

Nice one Major,
My local coast is popular haunt for these birds, and have become a big favourite of mine. They certainly are very confiding, and my last effort with these birds resulted in me becoming stranded by the tide
I like this loads

Lovely capture Major, I particularly like the angle of the bird, it shows him busy.
Best wishes

Thanks for the comments everyone, and for Tim:
There were four of us all sat down on the Salthouse pebbles.
One old boy sat slightly to my left and back a bit. I half heard him mumble that he felt odd and next minute he was laying flat out. I didn't take to much notice as I thought he was just relaxing in the afternoon sun. After about 30 secs he began struggling to breath so |I jumped up and was about to turn him on his side. His eyes had gone and he did look as though he had stopped breathing. As I attempted to move him he came round.
So even the leisurely pursuit of photography and the excitement of Mr Purple Sand nearly walking right up to us does have its draw backs.
Our man eventually got up and drove off after sitting for a while to recover. Lets hope he is ok.
Major.
