He wasn't a photographer, but he was an advocate for the well being of the environment and animal protection. I suppose it was sort of expected he would go like this eventually, but still sad.

I admired his great spirit and the work that he did. It's a sad loss and while he wouldn't have wanted to die so young he at least died doing what he loved the most.

I am shocked. He did more for the protection of the environment than anyone I know of. I think his wife and daughter will continue his work. Very sad.

Yeh they better. Hopefully his daughters learned enough from him in their young age. They have an amazing zoo to look after as well!
I was reading about it, its like a 1 in a million chance that a stingray sting is fatal, let alone even stings you. I mean, I have gone swimming with them a bunch of times in the Bahamas.

Very sad. I really liked the guy. I know it sounds trite to say, but he died doing what he loved.

Wow - he did some dangerous stuff, but what incredibly bad luck to get 'stung' where he did.

It was a shock today when I first heard about it while touring Brekenridge today in the Tom Mangleson Gallery. The real shock was that it had not happened as one would expect and in such a rare way. In any case it is a tragic loss for his family and the wildlife world. It was a real pleasure watching his shows for the past several years. His "Kricky" will be missed.
For me, the understanding that one should do what they love so one can love what they do. I'm counting the days till I really can do that!

Definitely a sad loss. I agree, James. If they had announced that an crock or snake got him, I could understand, but a stingray!!! Geez, that must be as common as getting hit by a meteor.
