First attempt at landscape
This is Lake Vyrnwy taken with my carry around Canon S40.

I have moved up to this area and the scenery around here is just inviting me to take more and hopefully better landscapes. Any comments to help me in this most welcome.

Thanks

David

Hi David,

Can't say that I'm much of a landscaper but it certainly looks inviting to take some pictures. I do find (in my opinion) that bush in the bottom right to be a bit distracting.

Kind Regards Chris.

Thanks Chris. I was wondering about the bush myself. Is it foreground interest or a distraction?

Anyway, this is another shot of the same scene taken from a slightly different angle to exclude the bush and cropped to pano format. Is this better?

Regards

David

I prefer the pano, it is more balanced. Although my eye is drawn to th every dark left hand side.

Good image for a point and shoot,A poloriser would really punch the colours

I reckon this needs to be shot at a differant time of day (early morning or late afternoon) or when the sky is more dramatic. Also I think you need to reduce sharpening on the horizon as often a marked halo is apparant. I think Dave has a point with a poloriser, also to increase clarity local contrast is a good tool (here with USM set amount to 15%, radius to 50 and threshold to 0).
Just my thoughts.

Thanks everyone for your advice, all very helpful. I think I need to add a poloroser to my shopping list and prepare myself for some early mornings
