Oh yeah? That upstart Tim thinks he can come on here and post dragonfly in flight shots does he? I'll show him!!
So off I went this afternoon to a slow river close by, where I knew there would be some migrant hawkers patrolling about. Yep! Still a few so I'll just rattle of a few frames and get back into this photography lark. Err, just one problem my battery died after only 6 frames. No problem I'll pop in the spare, damn not even enough charge to start up.
One of only 2 frames from my "session".
Canon 1D, 100-400 I.S @400mm, 1/250s, f6.3, handheld, cropped about 10% for screen presentation.

Absolutely Brilliant Christopher!
I’ve tried getting flight shots of hawkers many times and got nowhere near this.
You’ve nailed it spot on.

Hey Wilson you've made mine shrink into insignificance, good to see you've got off your butt anyways.

Lovely shot Chris - they are such fun to shoot.
Had a session with them last week - using similar shutter speeds as yours to get some wing blur.
Pity about the batteries , but you still managed a cracker.

A beauty Chris, but wait till i get my new rod-driven AF sigma contraption aimed on these chaps, before you crack open the champagne
I remember your excellent dragonfly-in-flight shots from a year or so ago.
I see your standard is still as high as ever.
Cracking shot and impressivly sharp, especially as it was handheld.

Super flight shot, can't fault it. Tried for some shots like this myself this year but I didn't nail one as good as this.
cheers
