This is one of a large series that I took of Black Bears hunting for rock crabs in Clayquot Sound, Vancouver Island. At low tide, many bears come down from the forest to feed along the shorelines of these remote fjords. It is possible to get to within 10-15 metres in a small boat or kayak, without disturbing the animals. A wonderful experience. I have arange of images from close up portraits to 'in habitat' views but this one shows, fairly well, what the bear is actually up to.

Hello Malcolm
That must have been a superb experience, you lucky person! Your image conveys the bear's behaviour very well. I tried the shadow/highlight tool, then USM of 20.30..1 to put back the contrast, and it just revealed a little more detail.
Best wishes
Phil
A great behaviour image from what must have been a great experience... Phil K has already picked up one of my nits, the detail particularly round the head is a touch lacking, and perhaps a slight turn of the head or a slight lift just to get a bit of eye contact.... but I'm sure you have those
Also to me it looks like the image could do with warming up slightly, there appears to be a slightly cold cast to the bears fur.
