Pony Tail Falls B&W
I know this is like beating a dead horse but I decided to try something a bit different with this...from a different angle.....

The color really sucked up there yesterday so I converted this to Black and White...

opinions please...good or bad....I am just curious!!!

Thanks

Darren,
I'm having trouble making up my mind with this. I do think the greens in the gorge are one of it's main photogenic asset. This falls IMHO is a tough one to capture. You did a great job with the comp. I'm just not sure about the conversion.

Thanks Eric....right now the color up there is not really good and my water turned very very blue for some reason....maybe cause it was early morning....I am looking forward to the leaves turning to full color.....

Here is the color version if you want to compare the 2....

I would have to say I really like the color version. I know the greens are flat this time of year in the gorge. Nice work!

Darren, my vote is in for the color version. Nice.

Darren, I also vote for the color shot. I also am a little distracted by the closeness of the riffel in the LRF. :jump:

I'll have to go with the B&W version, I really like it. Maybe because the falls is so overdone..

I wouldn't give up on the B&W version. It draws me in. The composition is great.

I'm with Ned. The BW in this case is much better. it gives more emphasis on the shapes of the falls, the basalt, and the eroded cavity under the basalt. The only nit I have with the BW is that is seems a bit oversharpened.

As for the color version, you should be able to remove the blue cast to the water by either desaturating the cyans with a hue/saturation layer, or using a selective color layer (this generally gives a more natural result), or the best way is usually a curves layer in Lab color mode.

thanks for the comments..one of my photo buddies pointed something out to me. Before I share what it was I want to try it to see if it actually works....maybe not on this waterfall but one similar....

Cheers

I'll go for the B&W but I think the comp is too cluttered. I think you have to work the bright white against the darkness of the cave and grayness of the cliff. I'd go real spare as far as comps go.
