Hi All,

Just started to get some birds back in our garden after the summer. I took this from my newly bought WWS Dome hide during an early morning session.

The techs were:
Nikon D2X, 300mm f2.8 VR, 1.7 tc, tripod, hide,
1/180th sec at f4.8

Thanks to all who looked at my last post.

Regards Chris. :toast:

The face is nice and sharp with very nice detail but feel the DOF is way to small and needs something like F11,I dont mind a soft tail but the branch being out of focus doesnt look right to me also the perch could be better without the snapped off twig look-everything else hits the spot,a better perch and more DOF and it would be a cracker

I agree with Dave that the perch isn't ideal but what an excellent pose you've caught here.
Good size in the frame and the portrait format suits the shot superbly.
Possibly just a very slight boost in warmth or saturation would work really well here, although this is very much personal preference.

Agree with the others about the perch and dof, although the light must have been quite poor with an aperture of f4.8 and the resulting shutter speed only being 1/180.

Definately different from the norm Chris, although more tricky to pull off to good effect {due to Dave's DOF points}.

Spot-on focusing though, and i like the idea.

No dought opportinities will increase from now on to refine this type of shot, as the broken twig is a major distraction from an otherwise nice shot.

Nice one

Hi Chris, a little shame that the perch is oof but I love the 'head on' look

What an expression lol. This I like & the perch doesn't bother me that much IMHO.

Nicely taken :toast:

I really like this, it's not an average pose and the perch also doesn't bother me, my eyes were drawn straight to the robin's eyes as soon as the pic loaded.

very striking pose but i agree it needs more depth of focus - at least to get the beak sharp
