Ok,

I think I'm about to go the 5D route.. not only for landscape but everything else I shoot as well. I also love panoramic photography and want to shoot that. So my idea is to buy a TSE lens, 24mm or 45mm, not sure if I can offord both as I need a long lens as well. If It works out I can get both no problem but if not which one would you use to do panoramics with. Shift right, centre, left idea and still get a seamless join. Also how does this technique work with things like moving water???

Thanks

I only do a left shift and then a right (I don't do a centre pic), and then stitch in Photoshop - works great, personally I think the 45 gives more opportunity for pans and easier stitches as the 24 includes too much foreground and requires you move the camera as well as the lens on the nodal point - see here for details - http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_58/essay.html

Don't forget to do vertical stitches as well, very cool

I have the 24mm TS-E, and a stitched pano is really wide. I love the lens, but for panos, I'd recommend the 45mm.

If your main concern is stitching rather than having tilt/shift movements, then I would skip the TS lenses altogether and buy a (much cheaper) license to AutoPano Pro.

Guy

I want the tilt/shift also. The shift for pano's is just a bonus.

I'm thinking of buying a 24mm, 45mmTSE and a 70-200 or the 100-400. But i'm so tempted by the 24mmTSE as it's my favourite angle of view for landscapes. And the shift and tilt would be great to have....

Now wheres that money tree

Keith,

The 24mm can be modified to have tilt with rise and fall! This is how I have mine and it's perfect. All you need to do is remove the four tiny screws and rotate the base then reinstall the screws. When you get it let me know and I'll send you a link that shows how.

For Panos, the 45TSE can't be beat in my opinion. But as Guy said, it's only going to add about 60% additional in the width or length...I'm guessing, I haven't really measured it. But, I love being able to quickly take two or three shots, with the 45 and stitch them together.

I also have the 24TSE. It is my favorite landscape lens. The shift and tilt controls add a huge dimension to my ability to capture what I want. I'd recommend both if you can afford them.

Cheers,
