I've been in Kansas City the past couple of days, helping out my parents. I decided to buy a roll of pro slide film 35mm for a project I have in mind on my way back home. I went to five pro camera shops, including two of the biggest ones downtown. I was barely able to turn up some Astia 100F (outdated in June) and a roll of Provia 400 that outdates this month. I was rather stunned that in K.C., the 25th largest city with ~2 million people, I had such trouble finding pro slide film. Not one I checked place carried Velvia 100 or Kodak 100G or 100GX. I actually tried seven camera shops, but two had closed. It is now easier to find CF or SD cards than it is to find slide film.

Kent,
I am off to the Eastern Sierra in early October. Though I still shoot a little film ( using a D20 now) but I want to o do some star trails, that still require film ( as digital can't do 2-6 hr exposures without lots of noise). I had the same experience where I live( NE OHIO (for now)).
Times are a' changing.

I get all of my film from B&H. There is one store in town that has Fuji Velvia but they want $14.95 CDN a roll.
Some day I am going to get a head stone carved for the last roll of K-25 and invite all of you to the funeral. I will have that wonderfull smell planted in my brain till the day I die. I have a 20 box of K-64 in the frig that I plan to shoot star trails with. I still remember my first 100 roll day (Sanibell Island Fla.) But look at all the big and wide glass we can buy with all that cash we save! The next grave stone over will be for the lady Ciba Chrome Print. Oh she was so nice. But she could snach a stack of Franklins out of your wallet so fast. My camera shop still has film, but seldom has K in stock. Photo Barn in Atlanta, Super nice people !!!!
Oh, brother! I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me in Louisville, KY. I had to send for film from my pro shop in Seattle! They bailed me out, thank goodness. I still am of the mindset that film is a useful tool. And I have kept my film camera, too, although I now shoot mostly digital. Time will tell, I guess.
