Here is another shot taken of the young Kestrel. Here he as spotted a something across the field, I think it was the cows in the next field.
With this shot I thought it would be a good idea to give a bit of room on the left to look into
D2X - 400mm AF-S F2.8 (Handheld)
ISO 200, F5.6, 1/500sec

Superb detail (as usual with you) and a good background.
I think it needs a little more room on the right.
For this type of shot to work you really should stick with the thirds rule, cliched I know, but IMO it can't be improved on with this type of shot.

I'm nervous of cows, got a few at work. Great expression brings out sympathy nerves.

The perfect compliment to your previous shot Vince,
It does need a touch more on the right hand side for me also, but both are absolutely wonderful images

Yet another beauty Vince. I agree that a little room on the right would improve the comp, but that said this like the other is fantastic.
Another great image.... yep the rule of thirds should be used here as we are a bit tight to the right hand edge and a bit more space there and a touch less on the left would make a great image exellent IMO.

I don't post very much as I'm generally busy, bt though I would in this instance. I think it is a great shot. Speaking as a gphic designer as well I don't agree with the rule of thirds in this instance. Put that on a magazine page and copy could be run down the side no prolem at all. If only more photographers did the same.
I also love the expression, which instantly gives the subject character and appeal and takes it away from being 'just another' kestrel shot. Well done

I agree with Gavin,
You really get the feeling that the kestrel is looking out of the picture (or double page spread when it's used ).
Fantastic detail.

A bit too much negative space on the left but its a cracking image with respects to the sharpness. Shame we havent met to-date
