Anderson Pass
Nikon D2x
Two shots both at:
1/320 sec @ f/8
12-24mm @ 12

Looking down from Anderson Pass on the Uinta Highline Trail in the Uinta Mountains east of Salt Lake City.

I'm not really up on stitched panorama technique and this one looks good at this size but larger, you can really see the seam. Still though, it was fully awesome walking to the edge of this valley. We had hiked a few miles up a fairly gentle slope and all of a sudden came to this edge. Needless to say, it was breathtaking! The trail goes down to the right and we camped in the middle of the valley below.

Yeah, the Uintas are full of glacier carved valleys like this. I think this is looking SW and on the other side of the pass is another gorgeous valley (painter valley) just like this to the SE. I also camped in the middle of the valley below here once, just minutes before a big T-storm rolled through! I was headed the opposite direction and camped at the tarn beneath Kings Peak (the mountain at left, or the bottom part of it anyway) the next night. This totally brings back memories Mark. You're real close to Utah's highest point here. Did you climb Kings too?

Marc, next year, we're going to start at the very east end of the Highline trail and hike over this pass and then head out. Painter Basin looked beautiful and I can't wait to explore it. We didn't tag the summit of Kings Peak. This was our second day out, it was a little bit late in the day, and we were a bit tired. Maybe next year we'll set it up so we camp right at the head of Painter Basin so we can get up early and summit the peak.

Wow, it must have been really incredible standing there.

Mark, Very interesting shot. It looks very natural to me, but I am wondering if it is two 12mm shots stiched, is it really wider in person?

I think you're right, Jerry, I kept looking at it and wondering about it. It's not a whole hell of a lot wider, maybe 1/3 again as wide.
Right after I posted this version I worked on it again for about an hour. Stitching two shots taken at 12mm is certainly NOT the way to go. The next version looks a bit better.
