I just read this article stating that they will be closing the Glacier Gorge parking area in Rocky Mountain National Park beginning Monday through sometime in October. Unfortunately, this is prime autumn color time there. :frown:

I just called the RMNP ranger station to ask for more details about the closure.

He stated that the larger Bear Lake lot should still be open and of course park and ride is still available. It doesn't start until 7:00AM but leaves every 15 minutes.

plus...to get to the old GG trailhead by way of bear lake is only .4 miles roundtrip longer than from the new GG trailhead...so it's really not a big difference.

I just drove by the GG parking lot this afternoon. A portion of the lot is covered in this material that the article talks of, or at least some sort of gravelly stuff. The rest of the lot was open. However, there were a lot of sign stating that overnight parking was not allowed. These signs were temporary type signs.

An update from The Denver Post, in case anyone wants more info on this project.
