I've enjoyed photography on and off since I was a kid but only in the last year or so have I "really" been into it. Until then I had accumulated a moderate amount of film based cameras, lenses and so on. Now that I've "gone digital" I find I am collecting gear of all types and sizes at an alarming rate and can see where it will soon be difficult to keep it all straight and organized so I can find what I want when I want it. Any suggestions as to ways to store the gear? Any particular cabinet types, bags, boxes, etc. that you could suggest?
We have a couple of large "gun" safes, which we use to organize and store the gear. Add some 1-pound desicant packs and you're set.

My gun safe is full of... well... guns.
I bought a nice cabinet that matches my bedroom furniture pretty well and store most things in there. The larger glass sits in the backpacks I normally tote 'em in.

I keep mine in my truck. That way, it doesn't have to undergo the temperature extremes of going in/out of my house. Been doing that for years. I think the big thing is to avoid moisture/dampness, and maybe raccoons. I've got a closet full of stuff I don't really use any more. I'm starting to think I should just sell it all on eBay and get some cash out of it to put into things I will use. My philosophy is that if I haven't used some thing in two years, I'm not going to use it. I can put all the stuff I use most of the time into two camera bags, and these easily fit in my car. And there they stay.

I just keep my stuff in my home office/computer room/photo room. It stays in the camera bag I most often use. The only exception to that is my camera. I leave it on the shelf because it doesn't stay in the camera bag. I like it all to be ready to roll at a moments notice. I learned photography working at a newspaper photo department and have kept many of the bad habits I learned there. Much of my equipment looks a little rough, but as long as it works perfectly that's all that really matters to me. One good thing I learned there was that good equipment can take an amazing amount of abuse without affecting functionality.

Oh my, you all are much more organized than I am! I have equipment and various photographic miscellany scattered everywhere... from a packed-solid hat box, to an overflowing camera backpack, to items lying all over the living room floor, to various flash cards stuck in card readers around the office... what a mess!!!!!!! Not to mention the industrial-sized rolls of bubble wrap, frames and mats and art show stuff stacked everywhere... I think it boils down to the fact that I need a larger house just to store all my photo stuff.
