I'm lookin for one of those great forests roads close to Maroon Bells where one can simply pull over and sleep the night away. The campsites along Maroon Creek road are all full for the weekend (and it sounds like they're strict about car camping anywhere along that road). Anyone know if I can just camp somewhere along Castle Creek Road? Or anywhere withing about a half hour of the Bells?
If you're car camping, simply pull into the overnight lot (the big lot just east of the main lot at the lake). I've asked them in the past and as long as you sleep in your vehicle and don't pitch a tent, they don't mind. I do it every year.

Brian, lots of good spots along the Castle Creek road too. I've slept at the Conundrum trailhead about 5 miles up the road, as well as the trail head to Cathedral Peak/Lake trail. Past Ashcroft there are even more. As the paved road ends, the road that eventually leads up to Pearl Pass has lots of good spots with in the first mile too. Figure about 40 minutes of drive time from back there to get to the Bells parking lot, I'd guess.

I slept at the Conundrum Creek trailhead a couple years ago.
