Well its that time again, time to re-insure.

The company I am currently with have changed their policy. They now require need me to disclose any 'Events' (not just 'Claims') that have happened in the previous 3 years.

These events, I suppose (for I couldn't really bottom out what an event was), could be anything adverse happening to the equipment pertinent to the policy.

Please ensure you tell your insurance company about any reported 'event' to be on the safe side for, if these 'events' are found in the processing of a subsequent unrelated claim by your insurance company, it could possibly affect your insurance; one would assume detrimentally.

I found this out when I tried to renew my policy online - I cannot remember anybody informing me of this by letter.

I was reading the smallish print on the summary sheet and it said that I had no reported claims or 'events'. I have, I filed a police report about 2 years back.

I phoned the insurer and explaining a situation I had explained previously to get the previous premium (as I want to be whiter than white) they wanted to charge me approximately an additional 15%. :frown:

There is a silver lining to this cloud, in shopping around I subsequently found a roughly similar policy at about £200 off the altered previous quote. Yes- I have read the small print.

So be careful that you read and question all items/terms/words on your policies as it could save you and your insurers falling out.

Tom,

Do you require things such as professional indemnity on your policy? In other words are you doing the full professional photography policy or just wish to cover your equipment from theft, damage etc.?

I have currently got a photography policy designed for "semi-pro" and it cost a small fortune in premium last year. A colleague at work has just insured his gear (similar value) for around a 10th of my premium. I will enquire with him as to exactly what his policy covers because I feel slightly ripped off the last 2 years.

Ask if his kit is covered for theft from a unattended vehicle? If so, please let me knowas I can get professional indemnity very cheap by itself.
