Lets just say it was *really* cold and snowing very hard. We weren't really dressed for it. So our family (3 young childen and grandma) hike to Alberta Falls turned into the longest mile.
The colors were showing really nice in the park at these higher elevations up around Bear Lake, etc... Here are some other shots of the area: http://imageevent.com/dereksurfs/fall2006
My fingers were so numb I could hardly press the shutter let alone use a tripod.
As this is our first year living in Colorado I am glad we learned this lesson on a short hike on a well marked trail. Moral of the story for us - *Always* bring clothes for every season just in case.

Wow, the weather looks crazy! It looks like late fall, not mid-september. Nice photos.

Looks like I used your tripod holes. I was up there this morning. Missed the really good light waiting for the wife to get around in the morning, but overall it was a good day.
Seems like everyone is in RMNP this weekend. My shot was taken with very early light on Hallett peak.

Nice shooting, Derek - love the combo of fall colors and snow. And yep, especially in fall, always carry winter clothes. My camera bag *ALWAYS* has gloves and a hat and, depending on the weather forecast, an extra layer of polar fleece. Things change very quickly here; glad you weren't too far from the car!
Brian, TC - nice work guys!

Nice photos Derek - I especially like the Alberta Falls shot. My family would have stayed in the car and waited for me!

I was also there from the afternoon of the 16th until the morning of the 20th. Even though I did not meet any of you I'm sure we passed each other several times. Man! comming from hot and humid Georgia that wind was cold. I haven't had time to process ony of the weeks shots. It was our first trip to CO and despite the weather it was a great trip.
