Autumn is coming and it looks as though we will have a good fungi season. Found this year's first group of amethyst deceivers yesterday in deep shade and took a number of shots. This was the most pleasing, though I have not really been able to capture the amazing colour of these mushrooms. Not sure about the background - the dark patches are a bit distracting but it does give an autumnal feel.
Yes it does look like it will be a good year for fungi... nice image of these attractice mushrooms, it is a shame that the nearest specimen isn't in pristine condition and with a tryptic I would have prefered a touch more separation between them if possible. I might have concentrated just on the smaller of the specimens... I do like the crop...

Very nice image with good framing, however I think that a move around to the left would have lost the damaged area on the main fruit body and a reflector would have kicked a little more light in helping lift the shadows, but a fine shot with good colour control none the less.

love the composition but i do find the background a little distracting, however it does give more of an environmental feel

Hi Malcolm,
I agree it can be tricky capturing the attractive colour of this species sometimes.
Looks like this particular group are a bit on the pale side, possibly as a result of a recent downpour which can often dillute the colours.
An attractive looking natural shot.
Suggestions for improvement have already been covered with the need for a bit of seperation between the three toadstools being my main observation also.
I find the background a little too distracting for my taste, especially the lighter areas. One option would have been to use the Dof F preview to identify the background highlights and carefully remove the offending leaves, although I can appreciate you may have preferred to capture the scene exactly as you found it.
Fingers crossed for a good season this year
