Conditions were right on Saturday morning to photograph these small (max 5mm) Pixie Cup Lichens. I have a series of images for focus stacking but haven't had a chance to get round to it yet, also have portrait format images but prefered this one.
All the best

I have never heard or seen these so a new one to me,I think i would have liked more DOF to keep the stems in focus and maybe even the cups as well but a very nice image as is

Agree about needing atad more DOF, just for the back part of the top of the stem.
I love the background colour tho. That dark green looks awesome.
Its different aswell

I like this, the DOF, though shallow, is not to much of an issue for me, excellent colours.

I agree that a little more dof would be good but a beatiful image all the same

Hi Phil,
A cracking shot of an often over-looked species.
The simplicity of this image is what I find most appealing.
Hi Phil, I have never heard or seen these before but an very interesting shot with lots of detail on the Lichen and really good bg that make the subject standout. I think this is one of those times that I would personally have liked three to make a triangle but nature doesnt always oblige

Hi Phil
A delightful image, good colours and tones and composition.
I will be interested to see your final 'focus stacked' image. Are you using a software tool for this or is this a manual process?
I have tried taking multiple shots of a landscape scene at different focus points and then manually merging to get 'front-to-back' sharpness in an attempt to replicate the depth of field that is achieveable with a view camera. I do this manually and it is a tricky and time consuming process although it can be effective in certain circumstances.
cheers

Lopvwly shot Phil. Challenging things to shoot well, lichens - loads of dof issues, I find, perhaps because there is no obvious focus point (like an insect's eye, for example). This has inspired me to go out and try again.
Cheers

Hello Phil
The DOF doesn't bother me much either, I like it a lot.
Best wishes
