I spent last weekend (Sept 16-17) around Ohio and Kebler Passes, and shot up to Capitol Peak for a Sunday evening shoot. I made sure to get snapshots of some classic views, so that folks could get an idea of the current conditions. These have very little processing done (in other words, I'm not interested in comments or critiques  ).

1) Horse Ranch Park evening view of Ruby Mtn
2) Morning on East Beckwith
3) Mid-morning on Lost Lake Slough
4) Chair Mtn from bottom of McClure Pass
5) Capitol Peak from Hell Roaring Trailhead
6) Driving conditions just below Hell Roaring Trailhead

Fall Color ~ Kebler Pass and Capitol Peak ~ September 16-17th, 2006

The short story? The next 2 weekends should be excellent (when I'm on a plane headed to the Midwest... )

Excellant report Scott. The pics are worth a 1000 words each. Much appreciated.

BTW, was Ohio Pass similar conditions to theses areas?

Yes, very much so. There's that aspen stand high on the Southeast side of Ohio Peak (looking Southwest from Ohio Pass, above the waterfall) that has almost totally turned. But that stand always turns early. The large stands down in the valley looking towards the Castles have only just started to turn.

Capitol Peak has a ways to go. But I saw one of the greatest light/snow shows of my life from near that same area you were at on Saturday night. We almost did not get to shoot there, as there was a downed tree across the road very early on along the drive, so we drove back to Aspen, went to the hardware store, bought a saw, returned only to find that someone else had cleaned the downed tree off the road. With the fresh snow/rain, the road was a mud bath, but fun.

Thanks for the quality update, Scott. Much appreciated. I'm leaving tomorrow night or Thurs AM for a 3 week color tour and possibly Yellowstone as well.

Scott, thanks for the pictures. They really help me get a feel for what is going on. I was getting a little worried I might be late - again.
