I've got 3 weeks off starting Wed. I'm planning on leaving Thurs AM at the latest. I'll be going around Colorado and was thinking of hitting Utah's Wasatch range (Alpine loop, etc) as well. Has anyone seen the conditions in Utah?
Thanks in advance.

The maples are at peak right now and another snow is expected tomorrow.

Oh, nice! Brings back fond memories from last year.... thanks!

Thanks Rick! I consciously steered clear of your composition, but as you know this place has endless opportunity.

Great shot Guy.

Does anyone know if there are any areas in Colorado where maples grow naturally?

I see some *planted* maples on occasion in various neighborhoods.

Thanks,

Derek

Geez Guy, that's the most resounding answer to a fall color question ever! Sweet shot.

I am really excited for this next snow.

I went up to shoot the other one, up toward the Alpine loop. The temp that morning was around 35 degrees. I stopped several times on the way up to shoot some pics. On my third (and what would be my last stop) my knuckle hit the lock mechanism on the car door as I was getting out; though I did not notice until I had shot a few shots and gone back to my car. My car was still running, with the doors locked.

After thinking through the situation; no cell phone service, 35 degrees, short sleeves (I had not put on my coat yet), and not many people around...I was about to break one of the small windows. I waited a few minutes and a nice lady came along and I flagged her down. She called my wife for me when she got down the canyon. An hour later my wife showed up with a key.

NOW I have a key in my wallet (I had one for my OLD car), and I am thinking of wiring one underneath too! One of the worst parts...my camera battery died and I could not even keep myself busy shooting. So I am looking forward to this next snow.

Looks like Guy was up there too, just up farther. Guy, I was locked out about a mile above Mutual Dell (a mile below Timpanookie).

That's quite an ordeal, Nathan. I always keep a spare key in my wallet and another hidden on the outside of my truck. Locking the keys in is one thing (worst case you break a window) but the chance of losing them out in the desert can mean a long wait or a 50 mile walk to the nearest town

I saw some great maples along the road right across from Mutual Dell. I was too excited to get up to the snow though so I didn't stop to photograph them. I'm also looking forward to another weekend of powder and red foliage.

That is an amazingly beautiful photo. I love the mix of snow and brilliant fall color.

Here is a shot that I took that day. Nothing close to Guy's shot...which is truly amazing!

OK Nathan, since you aren't crazy about this image, can I have it?

This is a very nice photo with killer reds. I'm glad we didn't here about you on the news....

Hey Guy, do you know when the Alpine Loop is generally at its best? I will be leaving next week for Tennessee unfortunately and will miss some peak color in many places but was wondering if i could still get a timp trip in.

Thanks

Hey Andy. I am sure that Guy will chime in, but I will give my opinion too. As of last weekend, the aspens really were not coming along very quickly, though we have had several days in the freezing temps last week. I am guessing that the aspens will be really nice within the next week. Maples were really nice last week.

I think you could get in some very good shots by next week.

Thanks Dave, I am glad that I wasn't on the news either!

Nathan, you're way too modest - that's a beautiful image!

Dave, I can confirm Nathan's assessment. The aspens on the east side of Timp are still pretty green and will likely not turn for another 2-3 weeks.

Whoa! Guy, although I've never mentioned it before I really enjoy your work, but the image above is something else entirely. That is truly breathtaking and is the epitome of what a grand scenic should be. Wow...

Color is going strong now. This was taken yesterday on Snow Basin Mountain. I'd attach an image but I don't know how to do it in this forum.

Jim, is the image posted on a web site somewhere? If it is, you can just post the URL.
