For those who know me, its pretty clear how I feel about this place. No trip to the SC coast is complete for me until I can spend at least one day at Hunting Island.
Recently, I wrote an short article for South Carolina Magazine with images about this place. I have added it on my website and thought I would share it, if youre interested.

Good article Richard!
I'm going to have to make a trip out there in the near future!

You have some wonderful images from Hunting Island.
I feel upset that they are doing beach restoration there. It basically takes away what is most unique about Hunting Island (the surf pounding right into the forest).
I felt the same when I learned of what was happening. But the only beach areas that have been fortified are the swimming areas on the south end of the island and the beach right in front of the campground. The rest has not changed. In fact, YOUR tree is still standing. Give it another year or two and it will come down though.

Richard, an outstanding article and some killer images. I remember seeing some of your images of the trees along the beach and of course Matthew's tree shots. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice article Richard. Now I'm more disappointed than ever that I didn't make it to the island when I was there in June. If I ever get a chance to come back to SC, I'll make it a priority!
