At the risk of sounding sappy, I just wanted to say that NPN is just such a great place! I was driving into work this morning thinking about it. I originally joined NPN to learn more about photography, and boy have I ever. However, the unseen and true benefit has been all the great friendships (albeit online) I've made since joining. The level of support and caring here is phenomenal. We have people from many different nations, cultures, and faiths who have joined together to share our passion and love of the outdoors, and I have NEVER seen the FIRST derogatory comment made about anyone! It is such a pleasure and privilege to be a part of NPN!!!! Thank you all.

Perhaps they should introduce nature photography to the U.N.

Indeed!!
And Amen.

I joined NPN in 2001 and can not imagine a day without 'visiting' the favorite hanging place this.

We love you too Bill. Great big group hug. A wonderful group of people with such amazing talent. What impresses me the most here is the understanding that opinions and personal reactions drive commentary on art. My opinion is just that - my opinion. It's not right, it's not wrong - it's just my take on an image. There is a wonderful acceptance of different opinions here and congrats to the group as a whole for that because each member plays their part in creating that atmosphere. The depth of knowledge and wisdom here is phenominal. The learning never stops and I'm reminded of a line in a song - "I knew much more then than I do now".

It is kind of amazing isn't it? Maybe there's some kind of artificial intelligence involved that filters out all of the usual internet nastiness.

Indeed Bill, that's why I like this forum so much more that our local dutch fora. And I get to see so much more interesting landscape pictures here, instead of my flatlands ;-)

I have to copy others above -- well said, Bill! I have been astounded by the generosity of the other members on NPN. Here there are nature photography maestros who take the time to gently comment on my (very) beginner level photos. I couldn't ask for better encouragement to keep growing in and exploring this craft.

And *you* are one of the most generous and encouraging commenters on this site! :toast:

Great take on the site Bill. I joined NPN in late 2003, shortly after I first started making images. It amazes me how much this site has become woven into the fabric of my everyday life. I can hardly stand to miss a day here. The polite and informative critiques have helped my photography exponentially!

I think there is an underlying correlation between nature photographers and the respectful, curtious individuals they seem to be regardless of race, creed or gender. Great thread!
