I've noticed that if I post a photo at ES&S I usually get a comment or two posted right away. On the other hand, images posted at M&N can go uncommented for days.
Do most member stick to a particular forum? If so I guess M&N has far fewer supporters. Is this because many of us are purists not wanting to see the hand of man or woman in images?
Or what?
Thanks,
Frank

This is a much trod field, Frank. Everyone has his/her own reasons why they visitr the galleries they visit and why they comment or don't comment on specific images.

Indeed. I just posted what I thought was a good, somewhat dramatic photo in M&N and after 73 views there were no comments. Now there is one and its quite positive So I guess you are right David...no the other hand I posted a photo I was less sure of thought it lacked impact and got 4 comments (one saying -- this lacks impact! So ... I guess ES&S just has more activity in it, eh?

I think that it takes a bit more for me to be impressed by a 'm&n' shot, requiring good placement of human elements. I just find order and beauty in the true ESS shots. I like the gallery, but tend to stick with flora and ESS, which are the two things I focus on in my photography. Stay close to my art...

When Jim Erhardt asked me to moderate the M&N forum…what 2 years ago?...I thought…well, I’d rather moderate ESS…I don’t do Man and Nature…call it the purist syndrome for lack of anything else…
Anyway, after having the experience of moderating and, in some small way, contributing to the great work being posted, I’ve realized a couple of things:
1. I love this forum.
2. I’ve learned a great deal from the excellent posts and wonderful photographers.
3. I now shoot much more M&N than ESS.
4. This forum gets much less traffic than ESS.
5. There are many more views than comments in M&N.
6. I really value the comments that are made in the forum.
7. I’m continually in awe of the startling work being posted.
So, while the view to comment ratio may be lower than ESS, the images are nonetheless excellent, dramatic, awe-inspiring, and worthy of their place in the world.
My two cents,

I have a theory that perhaps M&S attracts more beginners (as a percentage) than some other forums. M&S subjects are close at hand for most people and are easier for the less photo-involved to reach. Many beginners seem to feel their comments aren't "worthy" or might be afraid of looking dumb when they do. (Despite the fact I've never seen anyone made fun of there, or that everyone has a valid opinion.) There are some true masters that post on M&S, so there's a pretty good mix and easily enough to generate discussions.

Keep up with the posting. Anything that has double-digit views obviously is getting seen and hopefully appreciated. M&N photos often have the most unique look on the list when I click on "All Photos". Since I utilize "All Photos", most times I haven't a clue what forum I'm commenting on so it's just random for me. Generally I'll only have time to comment on one or two photos per session so I apologize.

Why confine oneself to only one forum? There are good photographic ideas in ALL forums.

Hi Patrick,
I didn't mean to imply that I stick to one forum -- I do get around. But I was wondering about M&N.
I chalk it up to "that's the way it works" and I'm fine with it.
So much of what we call Nature has the hand foot and whatever of man all over it making it close to impossible to leave us humans out. I think the distinction is quite arbitrary but am more than happy to live with it.
