Hi Bryan

Difficult macro shot to get right, with a fairly widely spaced flower head and a an active insect. I think that I might have tried a vertical crop and closed down a few stops to improve the dof. It would have been nice to get the main flower a little sharper. With modern digital SLRs, the slight reduction in resolution from increasing ISO is more than compensated for by better depth of field. The background grasses would have become even more apparant, but a tighter crop would exclude much of this. The insect is a bee mimicing fly - one of the narcissus flies, I suspect. Keep shooting away at garden flowers and insects - it is the best place to practice!

Cheers

Malcolm

Thanks for the responses guys!
I was using 410mm from 1.5 meters away, so quite a lot of unnecessary background crept in. I'll definitely try a different crop, tighter to the flower cutting away the left hand side. I'll also try lowering the colour saturation to try and reduce the distraction from the background.

Cheers!
