Great action, John.
Although it is difficult to tell from a small jpeg, the subject doesn't look critically sharp on my monitor. In fact, to me, the point of focus looks to be slightly in front of the bird. To obtain acceptably sharp images when using the 2x, even with the 300/f2.8, I always set the apperture to f11 (or smaller if lighting conditions allow) and then use the ISO to give me the shutter speed I want.

Hi Phil
thanks for your comments. I am always concerned that I oversharpen. Is this posting better?

Although a good picture, it is still not sharp.
The point of focus looks to be on the seaweed towards us from the bird and the 2nd posting confirms this by having it slightly oversharpened.
Strangely enough the first post looks better on my laptop monitor than it does on the big Dell job I have attached to it
No wonder I don't like the 2x...f11 today gives me a SS of 1/40th at ISO1600 And as good as ISO 1600 is for newspaper work it stinks for high quality printing.

Hi John,
It is a shame that it is not critically sharp but a well timed shot none the less.
Regards Chris.

I agree with the above-no doubt it did a quick flick of the head to jerk the crab back and 1/800 just wasnt quite quick enough

Sharpness aside, it's my kind of photo It shows very interesting behaviour, so I still like it.

Repost looks better John,
A well grabbed shot, in my view!!
I echo Daves comment, as its likely this was captured mid-jerk
Interesting behaviour John, it does look to me as though the focus is infront a little.

Nice moment on this one John. Your second posting is better from a sharpness point but still not on the money 100%. It's good to see these again. I went down to a local hotspot here yesterday and sat watching one for around an hour (no camera in tow). Sometimes it's good to just sit and watch and it gives me something to go for next week when I have some time off work.
