My wife and I are thinking of going to the Amazon and staying at Explorama Lodge. Has anyone stayed there or ever heard of them? It seems that most of the tour companies that travel in that area stay at least some of their time in one of there lodges.

Any comments or other suggestions are appreciated

Gary,

I've never been to the Explorama lodge, but I can recommend an alternative destination. There is a very remote and rustic amazon lodge in Noel Kempff National Park in Bolivia. We went in June, 2004 and were visitors 34 and 35 for the year. In 6 days we saw 2 jaguars, a harpy eagle, toucans, capybara, tapirs, river dolphins, one of the highest waterfalls in the amazon (Arco Iris) and had a fantastic time. The lodging is rustic but thats the tradeoff to see these animals. Cost was MUCH cheaper than any of the lodges in Peru or Ecuador. Most transportation was by boat and we flew in from Santa Cruz. A bit of Spanish knowledge was also helpful but not critical. Look it up on google, you'll be impressed. The main website is www.NoelKempff.com. Have a great trip. The amazon is truly amazing.
