Still to ID this one properly but I believe a Boletus sp. taken on a brief foray on Saturday, still a bit early for most species here in the south east...
This was taken whilst demonstrating the use of diffusers and reflectors, the specimen was in fairly thick woodland with the main source of light from 3/4 behind and was very dappled and unflattering.
I placed my grey diffuser behand between the sun shining through the woodland canopy and the specimen, carefully placing it so that some sun was falling in front and to the right of the specimen, this light was then picked up by a gold reflector to bounce back into the mushroom, a black card was then used to shield the OOF bg preventing specular highlights from the moss.
BTW all my reflectors are home made mainly by saving the wrapping from my grandchildrens Easter eggs and gluing that to card....
All the best

Hi Phil
Beautifully lit - I must make up some diffusers & reflectors. Lovely contast with the moss. Could be Boletus luridus but can't really be sure from a photo.
Cheers

A very nice macro. I like the composition.
I think I would prefer slightly more DoF, as the stalk is out of focus, which is giving me the unfair impression that the whole subject is soft (which it isn't!).
Can't help with the ID I'm afraid!

Beautiful Phil - I think I would have cropped a little of the OOF off the bottom!

Very nice image, fungus is very abundant this year, something to do with the dry summer??? I would suggest that this could be aureoboletus gentilis Gilded Bolete, but I am not 100% sure............

Beautifully lit Phil, and a fine setting
I tend to agree with Michael, that a touch more dof would have been good {to my eye}, although at f16 maybe only a longer shooting distance would have been the only option with your 180mm {at the risk of less isolation from the nearby foliage }.
Either way, its a fine woodland floor scene!

Hi Phil
I love the lighting. OOF foreground does distract me though.
Thanks for the explanation of your use of reflectors/diffusers. Gives me incentive to have a go.
Regards
David

Hello Phil
The OOF moss concentrates my eye on the main subject and that lighting is superb. I like it a lot, and many thanks for the useful information too.
Best wishes
