I don't think investment is the right word, but I do have a number of Nikon lenses, especially non-autofocus. I'm not positive, but it looks like the S5 will meter with non-CPU lenses. That's good.
Has Fuji said "enough" in the megapixel game? The S5 sensor is physically a little smaller than the D200's and is a 6 mp sensor versus the D200's 10 mp. I'll wait to see what the images look like, but right now it sounds like the best thing about the S5 is that it might bring down the price of the D200 (unless it's more than the D200).
Aren't they being coy about buffer, write speed and price! Those were the factors that dimmed any hopes for broad acceptance of the S3, yet they barely mention them in the announcement, and even might be guilty of talking around the question. If the S5 comes in at or above the price of the D200, it's probably time for Fuji to drop out of the dSLR market. They'll have another dud on their hands, and I doubt any company has a large enough R&D budget to suck up two duds in a row. Market share is simply too precious, and they could lose a bunch more.
It will be a very sad day for me because I think it's really important for Nikon to have a "competitor." We love (and still proudly use) the Fuji S2, but bypassed the S3 entirely for the D2X. I'd happily replace our S2's with S5's as backup for our D2X's if the price was comparable or less than the D200, but if it's more we'll be pure Nikon in our array of bodies.

2 repliesLooks to be based on the D200. Another option for those with an investment in Nikon lenses:
