Hey all, haven't been very active in posting lately (OK, haven't been at ALL active) but I have been busy shooting. I really need to get some new images posted here....
However, I am planning a trip next week to the northern edge of the Lower Peninsula of MI (Wilderness State Park, Mackinaw State Forest, etc). Can someone in the area let me know the status of fall color there, and any suggestions for camping locations as well as landscape photo ops (natural only please) would be much appreciated. I want to concentrate on the northern edge of the LP, and lean towards locations west of Interstate 75.
Thanks,
Christopher Jordan

My family and I drove through the northern lower Sunday afternoon coming home from Grand Rapids. I was quite surprised to see all of the color, especially north of Mancelona to Gaylord (131 to G42 at Alba) then up I 75 to the bridge.

Christopher,
This is the latest AAA report on fall colors:
In the Northwest Lower Peninsula, the color change has also accelerated with the cooler weather. Color development in the region ranges between 25 and 50 percent, with the best viewing near Onaway. Expect peak conditions to occur in late September in the inland areas and early October near the Lake Michigan shoreline.
As for camping, Wilderness Park has a campground. You can check it out here.
Toni and Scott - thanks for the info - sounds like conditions next week should actually pretty good! Can you both make sure the weather stays decent and that no storms come through to blow all the leaves down before I can get up there?
Toni - I have the Michigan DNR site bookmarked, thanks for the link. Where did you find the AAA report?

Can't say for sure regarding the weather, but I'm with you...enough rain and wind for a while!
The AAA report came from an online Detroit Free Press article. Then I went to the AAA MI home page, typed in "fall colors" in the Search box to get me to this page........

Being a AAA member, I should have known to do that from the get-go!
