Fall shots during the Big Dump
The past week was challenging with all the snow, rain, fog and mud on Cottonwood Pass and Kebler Pass, but despite the conditions I managed to get a few shots. The above shot was taken on Kebler Pass last Thursday when the fog broke for a moment.

My trip started in the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness area Thursday morning. I then headed west to Crested Butte via Cottonwood Pass. Friday morning the conditions were not improving, so I headed south to Gunnison and then west on U.S. 50 to Poncho Springs and back to Buena Vista. I was concerned about Cottonwood after an additional 6-8" of snow on Thursday night. There was good color on the east side of Monarch and the sun actually broke out for about an hour.

Friday night there was an additional 14" of snow at my cabin near Fairplay, but at 6:30am on Saturday, the skies were clear and the sun was rising. I decided to head back to the east side of Cottonwood Pass in hopes on catching some of the color I saw there on Thursday.

I ended up taking the Cottonwood Lake Road and was rewarded with some of the best color of the trip. I took the road past the campground for about 4 miles.

Here is a link to a gallery of shots from the trip. Sorry for all the detail shots of Aspen leaves etc. but I had to improvise with the conditions.

Tom,

I also headed up to Cottonwood Lake and liked the area. I was there after all the snow so conditions were a bit different but still nice. Greats shots. I didn't even think to shoot along the stream.

One I shot that I wanted but didn't get was the aspen leaf on the snow. A day or two after the main storm I thought it was neat how the leaves "melted" down into the snow. I like the red leaf on the snow shot you took.

Great shot. The orange in the tree really stands out.

I agree that this past week was challenging, but it looks like you handled the challenge just fine. :toast:

I like the starkness of this image - nice job doing something different.
