If you can get to Marble in the next few days do it! Beautiful colors and no wind! Lizard Lake reflections were killer yesterday afternoon and McKee Pond in the morning will knock your socks off.

Hey Ron. Thanks for the update! Can you give us a feel for how the leaves are hanging on after the snow down there?

The leaves are hanging on great! i was really surprised. It appears that the cold did not kill the green leaves as they are still looking strong. There are spots where the colors are gone but for the most part it is great. if you go make sure you take the quarry road as the colors there are aobut 50-60% changed and should be great today and tomorrow...maybe even Thursday.

That is good to hear! I can't get down to that area until Friday, but I am sure that there will be some goodies in that area and down around Kebler.

You will have some great color, Jody.

I'm not sure if you've been in marble before fut Lizard Lake reflections are best caught in late afternoon...6pm and on. McKee Pond is great mid morning (even though the light can be harsh) and can be killer in late afternoon. The road to the quarry seems to be real nice around 11am to noonish.

The colors at the mill are gone save for a few trees in the creek and one lone tree on the side of the mill. The colors on the drive up are nice. You can get a great view from the top of Daniels hill looking back towards Marble.

Lizard Lake is the first lake you come to when you take the nasty 4x4 road to the town of Crystal (same road for the Mill). Actually, the road splits right at the lake--to the left is Lead King Basin, to the right is the road to Crystal.

Lizard Lake is on the way to the mill and is less than a mile from the turn off that says 'Crystal City'. The road does not split off at the Lake (unless there is a trail I don't know of) but does split off for parking. If you continue beyond the lake almost to the end you will see a small parking area to your right. For late afternoon that is the best place to set up, in my opinion. I was there today but the wind was a little hard and no reflections.

As you get into the town of Marble contiinue past the fire station and Beaver Lake, past the old 'Gold Pan' store and then the road begins to climb. Once at the top of that hill you have the option of turning left (the Lead King Basin turn off) or heading straight for 30 feet then a hard left. Go straight then a hard left (there will be a sign that says 'Crystal City'). From there you are less than a mile from Lizard Lake and can't miss it.

Have fun!

Ron-

Lead King Basin road is part of a loop--the first turn you come to before the lake is the lower half. The one you refer to up near Crystal is the upper half. The remaining section of the loop is the road between Crystal and Lizard Lake. The road actually splits just before the lake...I wasn't totally accurate about that.

Yeah, the split is about half a mile or more before the lake, no big. The loop had about 2 feet of snow on it three miles up after the storm. I'll bet you would be hard pressed to get around it now.

Marble color still very nice...headed up that way tomorrow.
