Managed to capture a hover fly in flight. Bit grainy (ISO1600)
I still find the colours a bit lacking to be honest, but I will figure it out eventually.
Thanks for looking!

Hi Bryan, a difficult motive too catch in fligth I think you could easy apply a bit saturation to make it pop a bit more. Also a touch more of USM. Otherwise I like the idea.

I tried messing around with saturation and unsharp mask, but if I get the fly the colour I want there is a green/blue cast over the rest of the picture. Guess I should find a night course in digital image editing and try to learn a bit.
If you just wish to add a bit of extra colour to just the hoverfly, just make a selection around it and apply the saturation to the selected hoverfly only.
Another quick way is just make a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, boost your saturation a bit, select the paintbrush, with black as the foreground colour, opacity at 100% and brush hardness at about 90% and just paint over the bits of the image you don't want to the extra saturation applied too.

Well done for capturing the flight. There is a lot in this pic that takes the eye away from the main subject. It might be worth trying a tight portrait crop leaving the fly in the bottom left hand corner of the cropped image. If you then re-adjust the white balance to ensure that the flower is white that should take you a but further. Otherwise It may just be one of those that will eventually be consigned as a record shot.

A difficult project Bryan, but one that will give you a great sense of achievement when you get that perfect shot. You are well on the way with this shot, and i'm sure some perseverence will reward you.
Unfortunately i am clueless with advice, but i think this shot makes a fine base image to work from.
A decent attempt in my book!
