Hi All
I thought I should post an image as I have been very quiet on the forum recently due to lack of time over the last couple of months.
Last weekend I was in Cheshire and had some free time so decided to visit Lyme Park to see how good it was for photography, particularly of the Red and Fallow Deer.
The Fallow Deer are in an enclosed park area behind the house (of wet Colin Firth fame as my wife reminds me....). Unfortunately public access is limited to the footpaths along the edge of the park area, and one path that cuts across the middle of the park. Suffice to say the deer tend to congregate away from the paths and out of range of telephoto lenses. It is a shame as there are some very photogenic spots in the park amongst the trees and shrubland.
I found the best chance of photographs was down the central path, which the deer would cross occasionally, but not if people were about. After my third walk down this path I came across one deer feeding close to the path who allowed me a few shots before moving off.
The Red Deer roam the wider estate and I never saw any, let alone get close enough for photographs.
Suffice to say I will stick with Bradgate in the future, you might get lucky at Lyme Park but my advice would be to visit early or late in the day before the dogs and prams arrive and the deer move away from the public paths.
Anyway this is my first decent shot of a Fallow Deer, nothing special though, I am hoping for better things at Bradgate.
cheers
